“You know the greatest danger facing us is ourselves, an irrational fear of the unknown. But there’s no such thing as the unknown — only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood.”
— Captain James T. Kirk, “The Corbomite Maneuver”
Strange New Worlds: Trek's Triumphant Return
Okay, where do I even start?
Let’s talk about Strange New Worlds. This show dropped into the Trek landscape like a photon torpedo straight through the warp core. After years of the more cinematic, often grimdark approach of Discovery and Picard (bless their hearts, even if they felt like Star Trek was trying to be Game of Thrones with starships), Strange New Worlds came along and went:
“Hey! Remember fun? Colorful uniforms? Episodic storytelling with actual optimism? Wacky space anomalies? Let’s do that again, baby!”
Season 1: A Bright Warp Jump Forward
Season 1? Chef’s kiss. It came in swinging. Pike, rocking that “Space Dad with great hair” energy, gave us a captain who wasn’t emotionally constipated or making five-hour speeches about morality while sipping bloodwine. Just a solid leader. Charming. Compassionate. Makes a mean breakfast.
Episode after episode, SNW S1 flexed its episodic chops:
- "Memento Mori" – Pure Star Trek meets Das Boot. Gritty. Tense. The Gorn? Actually terrifying. Not rubber-suit ridiculous. Legit terrifying.
- "The Elysian Kingdom" – A glitter-snorting Shakespearean fever dream. Whimsical, bizarre, and delightful.
Season 2: Deeper, Riskier, and (Sometimes) Musical
Season 2 leaned harder into character arcs and narrative risks. We got more Gorn (still scary AF) and more Spock/Chapel drama than I was emotionally prepared for.
When Spock started losing control of his human side? Chills. And Nurse Chapel? Absolute queen. Compassionate. Brilliant. Brutal when she needs to be.
Then we got “Subspace Rhapsody” – the musical episode. Divisive, sure, but me? I loved it. Campy, weird, and boldly Trek. I mean, Star Trek has always embraced weird. Giant talking space amoebas? Horny Spock dueling Kirk? This fits right in.
And that Season 2 finale? Batel infected (will a baby Gorn pop out in xenomorph style?), the crew scattered across the stars? That cliffhanger had me pacing like a Ferengi who just lost his last strip of latinum.
Looking Ahead: Season 3 is Coming
What do we know about Season 3 (dropping July 17, 2025)?
- The Gorn are back and front and center.
- The crew is fractured but facing their biggest challenges yet.
- Tone? Tense, emotional, survival-heavy.
It feels like the writers said, “Okay, we gave you the fun. Now buckle up.” And I’m so here for it.
Who's Where?
- M’Benga and Chapel — Trapped with the Marines, likely in survival mode. Can’t wait to see Chapel wreck things again.
- Spock — Probably flying a shuttle into a black hole with a single tear and a Vulcan neck pinch for dramatic effect.
- La’an — More of her, please. Best security officer since Odo. Her arc? We need it. Also, can we get a rematch with the Gorn in zero gravity?
- Uhura — MVP. From green cadet to frequency-harmonic hero. She better get even more spotlight.
Also, the Gorn? Still pure nightmare fuel. Think: xenomorphs meet Jurassic Park. Based on the trailer, we’re getting survival horror, political tension, and a potential prison episode. If this becomes “Escape from Rura Penthe” but with Gorn? I will ascend.
Criticism time (With a little Love)
Look, I watched this video, and it said Season 2 leaned too hard into modern streaming drama tropes. And… yeah, I feel that.
Sometimes I don’t want trauma arcs. I just want an episode about jellyfish monks debating AI land ownership. That’s classic Trek. Not everything needs to be galaxy-ending stakes and soul-crushing loss.
That said, even with its misses, Strange New Worlds still has heart. Optimism. It’s trying. And when it hits? It soars. “Among the Lotus Eaters.” “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow.” Poetry.
Final Thoughts: This Is the Trek We Needed
Season 3 is coming. And I’ll be parked in front of my screen with popcorn, a Tribble in my lap, and too many emotions for fictional starship crews.

Give me the emotional gut punches. The bold adventures. The Spock struggles. The La’an fight scenes. The Uhura brilliance. Boldly go, baby.
To All My Fellow Trekkies:
Strange New Worlds is a gift. Imperfect? Sure. But it feels like coming home. After the past few years of dark, brooding Star Trek… This one remembered how to smile.
